Its original name was Reginna Minor, to distinguish it from the bigger neighbouring town of Reghinna Major (now Maiori), so maybe it was founded by the same Etruscans that founded Maiori. Here are the most important remains from Roman period on the Amalfi Coast. A 2,500 sq.meters Otium Villa (“villa for leisure”) belonging to a rich family built between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD, now a location for summer music and theatre festivals.
During the Medieval Maritime republic there was an arsenal and a shipyard in Minori.
Before the advent of tourism, its main economy was based on handmade paper, leather tanneries (in the 16th century), lemon exports (still very important), the production of handmade pasta ("Ndunderi" and other types of pasta are still produced to this day) .
The town is small and lovely, elegant, at the feet of Ravello which is reachable by taking an ancient path in about one hour. It is one of the ‘blossoming towns’ of Italy (http://www.comunifioriti.com/), so there are installations of crafts on the theme of flowers scattered all over the town…

- The ‘Painters of Maiori’ or ‘Costaioli’ were part of an artistic movement which arose at the end of the 19th century, represented by: Gaetano Capone, Luigi Capone, Angelo Della Mura, Manfredi Nicoletti, Raffaele D’Amato, Luigi Paolillo, Antonio Ferrigno, Luca Albino, Gaetano Cimini, Ulderico Forcellini, Pietro Scoppetta, Gaetano Conforti, Enrico ed Ignazio Lucibello, Antonio Rocco e Paolo Caruso. Their works are scattered throughout private collections all over the world and can be admired in Palazzo Mezzacapo and in the main church in Maiori, Palazzo della Provincia in Salerno, Pinacoteca Provinciale di Salerno, as well as in the town halls of Minori and Ravello.
- Lina Wertmuller, a genial Italian film director, has recently (2015) received honorary citizenship of Minori.
- Franco Nuschese, a well-known entrepreneur from Minori, emigrated in 1977 to the USA. He received many awards in Usa and in Italy, such as the “Ellis Island Medal of Honor” and “Minister of the Order of Malta”.
