Where? How to choose the right village for my holidays in Amalfi Coast?
Central towns like Amalfi or Positano have more shops and facilities and of course more touristic and noisy crowds It can be a good choice for short-time accommodation. Mainly if you don’t have a car. For a longer, more relaxing holiday towns like Maiori (with a real beach) , Minori and Ravello are suggested, for a deeper contact with the nature of places and local people. In high season the ‘must’ place like Amalfi and Positano are overwhelmed by tourists, in other places the real local atmosphere is better preserved. If you stay for a few days and you don’t have a car anyway you’d better choose a place near the ports like Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano.
How to choose an accommodation?
When you book a House or a B&B, or a Hotel room in Amalfi Coast, you must know that:
Stairs and ancient walking paths are part of the famous landscape of Amalfi Coast. Many beautiful squares and houses and B&B are reachable only by walking, and many houses and hotels do not have garage or parking spaces included in the price.
There are active tourists that come to the Amalfi Coast specifically to enjoy the ancient paths and they don’t mind walking or stepping a few minutes to reach their home.
There are people instead that need an accommodation a few steps from the beach, because that’s the relaxation they are looking for.
For others the important is resting in a silent place or being near the public transport centre, so that they can easily move from one place to another.
So always check whether your hotel/house has these facilities nearby: how many steps, how much time it takes to walk to the beach, bus stop, car parking and so on.
How many days I need to visit the must see places in Amalfi Coast and nearby?
A holiday in Amalfi Coast usually means spending one day to visit Amalfi+Ravello, one day or a half for a boat trip all along the cost with a visit of Positano or another village.
One more day or a half is usually spent to visit
Pompei (Pompei is at just 1 hour by car from Amalfi , 45 minutes from Maiori). A full day is often spent to visit
Capri (one hour ferry from Amalfi-Maiori). The other must tours are
Naples, Sorrento, Paestum, Caserta Royal Palace. See
‘Must-dos ‘ in Amalfi Coast.
So to enjoy at best all the area and still have time to rest on the beach you need a couple of weeks.
Holiday House for rent in Amalfi Coast (Campania Region)
Why renting a Holiday House?
More and more tourists prefer to book a house for their holidays in Italy, instead of a hotel room, sometimes to save money but mainly they prefer to live the local style, to share the neighborhood with Italians, instead of tourists, or they prefer to buy Italian fresh food in a typical shop “alimentari” and“salumeria” and cook it home. Cooking a simple Italian pasta takes 20 minutes and many fresh Italian foods like fruit, vegetables, many types of ham, cheeses and bread, and under oil products, don’t even need to be cooked. This means that having a kitchen in an Italian holiday house means saving lot of money devoting less time for cooking & cleaning.
